British alt-pop duo Lucky Iris, consisting of singer-songwriter Maeve Florsheim and multi-instrumentalist Jasper Exley, have just unveiled their brand new EP, Turns Out We Should Have Stayed At Home.
This 4-track EP tells a story based on a night out gone wrong, where they regret ever having gone out which I can perfectly relate as 90% of the times I go out I wish I should have stayed at home. I am really enjoying Maeve Florsheim's lush vocals which are packed with so much emotion and are beautifully complemented by Jasper's captivating production. I am also enjoying how they blend elements of several genres, such as R&B, Soul and Jazz in order to create their signature alt-pop, electro/acoustic sound.
I am a sucker for slow songs with tons of emotion so my favourite song has to be Take 5 (Why Can't You See Me?). The original Take Five was written by legendary saxophonist Paul Desmond, and this version sees Maeve's lush and emotive vocal delivery flowing effortlessly over the lush piano keys and quirky beat. Another song that I really like is I Fell Backwards, also thanks to the emotive piano keys which create such a melancholic atmosphere that got me hooked after the very first listen. Have a listen to this lovely 4-track project below!
