SHY Martin Shares Emotive New Single ‘Slow’
Swedish pop singer-songwriter SHY Martin, the moniker of Sara Hjellström and one of my Ones To Watch in 2020, is back with an emotive new single titled Slow.
This gorgeous song follows November's mid-tempo ballad Make Us Never Happen, and brings her songwriting skills to the forefront. Her outstanding honeyed vocals are one of the reasons that I love everything she does, but it's her relatable and delicate storytelling that really made me a fan of her music and Slow is the perfect example of how gifted a songwriter she is. I am loving the introspective atmosphere of this song and how easily one can connect with the message of taking things slow so one doesn't end with a broken heart again.
This beautiful message is backed by a guitar-driven melody that creates a warm and intimate atmosphere for her gorgeous vocals to soar and effortlessly convey the emotion of her lyrics. SHY Martin is one of the artists I am most excited to hear in 2020 and she starts the year with a stunning song that I think you guys will like. To accompany the release, SHY Martin shared a behind-the-scenes style of a lyric video that you can check out below!
Speaking about the song, SHY Martin said,
When I started writing songs I never did it without my guitar. I spent hours and hours writing on my bed with it, and if not there it was on a little pier by a lake next to our house. A few years ago when I moved to Stockholm I stopped writing songs that way. This past summer me, my brother and two of my closest friends and co-writers Nirob and Litens went to spend a weekend at my parents’ place in the countryside where I grew up. We ended up bringing the guitar everywhere we went. It was the first time in years I’d even held the guitar, but I guess going back to where it all started made me feel like nothing had really changed. 'Slow' was written during those days in the countryside. I picked up the guitar while we were eating breakfast one morning and started playing some chords. We were talking about how scary it can be jumping into a relationship immediately after a break up. I really felt like I wanted to keep the feeling we had when we wrote it by keeping the production simple, organic.
