“Like the Ocean” is about the mind games you play with yourself in the aftermath of a toxic relationship – replaying conversations over and over again, going back and forth on what it all meant, or if it meant anything – I think a lot of us have been there. For me, the hardest part of it all was knowing that even though this person was clearly destructive and manipulative, at the end of the day, I was equally responsible – I let it all happen. Writing this song allowed me to forgive myself for that.
