Ben Haenow
Former X Factor winner singer-songwriter Ben Haenow is back with his highly anticipated sophomore album Alive. With the exception of two covers, the retrospective tracks were written in their entirety by Ben and his brother Alex Haenow.

Alive follows Ben's 2015 eponymous debut album and it will include all four of Ben's independently released singles: Alive, Forgive & Forget, Rising and Falling Down. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to ask Ben a few questions about the album and his inspirations. Check it out below!

It’s been almost 4 years since you won The X Factor. Knowing what you know now, would you still go and compete in one of these singing competitions? What is the best thing that came out of all this for you?
Well it was an incredible experience and I wouldn’t change a thing. The best thing to come from it has been a career in music. I get to do something I love for a living and have been all over the world singing. It’s a dream come true.

On your self-titled album, you got the chance to work with some of the world’s top musicians such as Kodaline and Kelly Clarkson. How was it working with them?
It still blows my mind. Absolute true professionals and lovely people. Kelly has such an incredible and powerful voice and she is a really lovely person.

You’ve parted ways with Simon Cowell’s Syco, which is something quite common amidst X-Factor contestants. What was going on in your head when you and Syco decided to part ways?
Well when SYCO decided we should part ways, I guess it felt right. Musically, I don’t think we were on the same page. To be honest, though it was a bit of a shock, I think creatively having more control as an independent artist has its perks.

Ben Haenow
3 years after your debut album you are now releasing its follow up Alive. Can you tell us the inspiration behind this album?
It was essentially the story of the ups and downs of life from The X Factor up until now. The lead single ‘Alive’ was written as a thank you to the fans for all the support.

What’s your favourite track off this album and why?
I’d have to say ‘Getaway’ is my favourite track as it’s the one I’m happiest with lyrically. It’s a slow one but it was written from the heart. I’m very proud of the whole album and very excited to see what people’s reactions are.

What are your musical inspirations and how do they influence the way you make your own music?
I’ve always been a fan of rock and blues music and I think my voice lends itself to that style. This album is a little more edgy/rocky in production than the first one was and a little less ballad-heavy.

Who would be your dream collaboration?
Beyoncé! She is a legend.

Any plans to hit the road and promote the album anytime soon?
We’re looking to lock in a tour for the end of the year but got lots of festivals and stuff over summer.

What is your favourite song of 2018 so far?
Feel It Still’ by Portugal. The Man. Absolute banger.

What music are you currently listening to?
Plan B’s new album is in my car at the moment!

I read you finally married your long-term girlfriend. Congratulations on tying the knot! How is married life treating you so far?
Thank you! I’m the luckiest man alive, and she is incredible. It’s been the best thing I’ve done! It’s the start of my happily ever after.

While you wait to see Ben on the road promoting the album, make sure you take it for a few spins via the player below! My favourite songs are his unique rendition of Ain't No Sunshine, Alive, Getaway and Falling Down.

Speaking about the album Ben said,
I’m really excited for people to hear what I’ve been working on! I wanted to tell people about the negative sides of my experiences as well as the positives and to show people that there is hope even when you feel like giving up or like you can't go on. There were things I wanted/needed to vent or get closure on and I feel like this album has helped me to let go of some emotions. I really hope people can take a positive message away from it.
