Easy Life drop debut mixtape ‘Creature Habits’

Easy Life
Leicester five-piece Easy Life have dropped their debut mixtape, Creature Habits, today, which is accompanied by the visuals for new track Ice Cream, which you can watch below!

Creature Habits is a confident statement of intent from Easy Life, digging into a nuanced mix of sounds and stories across the mixtape’s six tracks. Ice Cream tells the story of a flawed romantic experience, shrouded in guilt, hip-hop grooves and melancholic jazz chords.

Silverado daydreams of a simpler existence (in warmer weather), whilst the rapid-fire rap of Lust and breakout track Pockets (my favourite track) chronicle vain attempts to find that happiness via materialism or other vices. Stream the mixtape below.

Front-man Murray first met bassist and sax player Sam at school in the Midlands: here, they bonded over a mutual love of early hip-hop, funk and R&B, beginning to write songs as Easy Life having signed up the rest of the band on the local scene. The songs across Creature Habits are the result of getting your hands dirty, in more ways than one (menial part-time jobs across the band have included plucking turkeys and selling potatoes to working in TK Maxx and for clinical trials).

Easy Life’s early ambitions already appear unpredictable, and exciting: their debut mixtape is the first glimpse of Easy Co., a burgeoning collective under which the band will explore a variety of projects (to be announced soon). Together, it all forms an instant, immersive introduction to Easy Life, the sort of band who don’t come along that often and offer a timely reminder that those lives lived fully also rarely come easily.
