RJ Thompson Premieres ‘The Girl & The Gunman’ Video
RJ Thompson has premiered the official music video for his soulful, funk-tinged single The Girl & The Gunman. Here RJ leans heavily on retro influences, combining the solid funky guitar groove and analogue synthesizers with a contemporary production standard. It’s sounds super fresh but with that old-school vibe. The track features guest appearances from John Waugh, saxophone player for The 1975, and Rachael McShane, ex-Bellowhead cellist. Watch its official video below!

Speaking about The Girl & The Gunman RJ said,
For me, The Girl & The Gunman is the song that really shaped the direction of the album. It was the first song that I wrote for the record, and everything flowed quickly after that. People always ask me what my influences are, and what I like to write about. In this case, it was simply a photograph. Last summer there was a very famous photograph taken at a protest in Baton Rouge. The girl in the photo was so graceful and peaceful. It struck a chord. It’s the first time I’ve ever been influenced to write a song about someone I have only ever seen in one image.
RJ Thompson has built a name for himself in recent months as one of UK's strongest up and coming singer-songwriters. His poignant lyrics perfectly capture the mood of the past 12 months, with songs that won’t fail to resonate, and all are set against a colourful (and at times nostalgic) soundscape that goes far beyond modern-day singer-songwriter stereotypes.

RJ is an artist who’s had to graft for every great opportunity that’s come his way, getting his big break through consistently playing grassroots music venues, pubs and clubs in his native North-East. It was a night in Hartlepool where the work paid off. A sound engineer at an open mic night was working with Live Aid organiser and Ultravox frontman Midge Ure. The engineer submitted RJ as a support act, leading to more than 30 shows touring the UK and Europe. Support shows with Gabrielle Aplin, Deacon Blue and Jools Holland (including a performance at the Royal Albert Hall) soon followed as well as several EPs and a live album. Now, RJ is stepping out with his first full studio album, Echo Chamber, set to arrive on November 17th.
