Amor Kismet Q&A
Hey guys! Atlanta-based sisters, AMOR KISMET, have released their debut EP, The Love. The girls are so talented and have been selected by BET as one of the most promising new acts in music and were featured Emerging Artists in Billboard's 2/21 issue. Inspired by artists like Aaliyah and Rihanna, AMOR KISMET's sound combines pop, R&B, neosoul, and dance, with world music influences. I have been lucky enough to ask the girls some questions so we could get to know them a bit more. Check it out below!
1. First of all I’ve got to say I’m loving your song Radar! What made you want to follow a music career? Was it always the #1 thing you wanted to do for a living?
LJ: Yes! Singing is what I love. Even if I didn't get paid I would still do music. It’s a occupation that helps me discover myself more and more.
Crystal: Thanks! Our oldest sister inspired use to sing when we were growing up. We were raised singing. We always sang in church when we were younger.
Erika: Thank you! We have been doing music since we were little girls and it is the only career I’m passionate about.

2. I know Amor means love in several languages like Portuguese and Spanish. Can you tell us the origin of the group name ‘Amor Kismet’?
LJ: Amor Kismet translates to love fate in English. It was love’s fate that we are sisters and we all love music.
Crystal: Amor is love In Spanish and Kismet means fate in Arabic (and other languages). We liked that it brought different sounds and cultures together—like our music.
Erika: One day we decided to stop going by our last name so we sat down and we came up with Amor Kismet, which means love’s fate.
3. As sisters how is it working together? Don’t you ever get tired of one another?
LJ: We don’t really get tired of each other. We literally grew up together. They are my best friends.
Crystal: It’s really awesome working together. We don’t get tired of each other, and even if we did, we will always be together. We’re sisters!
Erika: I think being sisters makes it easier to work with each other because we always are 100% honest!
4. Out of the songs you’ve already released/written which means the most to you and why?
LJ: That’s hard! We co-wrote all the songs. All of our personal experiences are ingrained in each song. I honestly love all of them and all of them are significant to me. Each song is an experience.
Crystal: I would say “Mixed Emotions” and “No More Time.” Those two songs speak to me the most.
Erika: That's a really hard question! I don't think I could pick because each song has a special place in my heart.

5. When can we expect a full length album?
LJ: You can definitely expect one! We’ll be sure to let you know exactly when!
Crystal: Hopefully soon! That’s something we’re discussing with our team right now.
Erika: Eventually! You can definitely expect one from us.

6. What are your musical inspirations?
LJ: Life inspires the music that comes out of me. As far as artists go, Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, Sade, Michael Jackson, and Bob Marley inspire me the most.
Crystal: Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, Michael Jackson, and so many more!
Erika: Music relates to our deepest human emotions. So, my first inspiration would definitely be my own life experiences. All genres influence our music.
7. There were a lot of all-female musical trios. Which ones would you like to match career-wise?
LJ: Hmm… no females trios are coming to my mind. I want our career to have longevity and make music that transcends all known and unknown barriers.
Crystal: We are really different from most girl groups, but probably TLC. They’re from our hometown of Atlanta.Erika: Brownstone! Their harmonies were impeccable.

8. Is there an artist/act that you would absolutely love to work with and why?
LJ: I want to work with Nico and Vinz one day. I love their style and positive message in their music.
Crystal: I’d love to collaborate with a lot of artists. Rihanna, Miguel, and Magic! all come to mind.
Erika: I would love to work with Miguel. He has a unique voice and he is very talented.
9. What has been the defining moment of your musical career so far?
LJ: Going to LA for the BET Experience last summer.
Crystal: Winning the #FlashUnsigned competition for unsigned artists was a big turning point for us. Performing at the BET Experience was also an amazing experience.
Erika: For me, it’s a tie between the recognition we’ve had from Billboard and the release of our new EP.

11. Apart from making awesome music what other secret/special talents do you have?
LJ: I actually act too. I won the best actress award in high school!

Erika: I can dance, too!

12. Name five things you can’t live without.
LJ: God, water, my family/best friends, music & vegan food (especially cupcakes)!
Crystal: God, family, my phone, water, and a new addition—my little dog!
Erika: God, my family, my phone, Chapstick, and pasta!
LJ: Haha we don't fight. Funny story though.. when were little Erika (the youngest, by the way) could beat Crystal and I both up at the same time!
Crystal: Me, of course! Haha no, honestly, I’m a lover—not a fighter.
Erika: My mom haha. She doesn't play that. We are too grown to be fighting—we did enough of that as kids!
14. If you could be superheroes, what would you want your superpowers to be?
LJ: Flying!
Crystal: Being able to fly would be cool. I would love to get to places a lot quicker and I would trust myself flying instead of others!
Erika: I would want to be able to sing harmonies by myself… like have five voice going on at once. That would be dope.
15. What’s your favourite song of 2014?
LJ: Sam Smith’s “I’m Not the Only One.” Fun interview! Thanks for having us!
Crystal: Impossible question! Too many to name just one.
Erika: Probably going to say “Let Your Hair Down” by Magic! That is a really hard question, though!
