Ellis Thomas Shares New Single ‘Lucy’
Cardiff singer and songwriter Ellis Thomas shares his brand new single Lucy, a sad, moody piece of folk music out now via Phwoar & Peace.
I am loving the song's warmth and intimate atmosphere, and how effortless his vocal delivery is, beautifully capturing my attention to his storytelling. Ellis Thomas sings about the effects the first lockdown had on people, the struggles and the sheer mundanity of what was happening (or not) at the time. Apart from his smooth, dreamy vocals, I am particularly fond of the intricate acoustic guitar plucks and how they are seamlessly paired with lush rhythms and echoing harmonies that together create an overall warm, somewhat melancholic atmosphere perfect for an introspective day home alone. Check it out below!
Speaking about the song, Ellis Thomas said,
Lucy is a fictional character I guess. When I wrote Lucy, Wales had just gone into of our first lockdown, and I was personally feeling the effects of it, mentally. One one of my friends at the time was really struggling and felt like no one understood her. So I wrote it about her, but drawing from my own experiences. Writing Lucy was my way of processing the sheer mundanity of everything that was going on (or not going on) at the time.
