SYML Shares New Single ‘DIM’
SYML, the solo project of multi-instrumentalist singer, songwriter and producer Brian Fennell, has just shared his brand new single DIM, the title track of his highly-anticipated new EP, out now via Nettwerk Records.
I instantly became a fan of his music when I heard his smooth electro-pop single Stay Close and now DIM seals the deal for me. Like its predecessor, what makes the song stand out has to be his distinctive, emotive vocal delivery that effortlessly conveys the emotion of each and every single word he sings. DIM strips back the electronics to focus on a stunning piano-based melody that enhances the emotion and melancholia of his storytelling. I am a sucker for melancholy-infused songs and this one is perfect for me. The pairing of his luscious vocals with the emotive piano chords and subtle strings is incredibly captivating and creates quite a warm and intimate atmosphere that makes it perfect to be played while home alone with one's thoughts. Quite a moving piece of music about loss and grief that I think you will love. Check it out below!
Speaking about the EP, SYML said,
This EP is largely about losing those close to us. Calling it DIM really applies to the light we carry during our time here. When those lights go out, it’s this sort of dimming process, but rather than living in that sadness – even though I think that’s a really healthy thing to do, to stay in that cozy, warm blanket sadness sometimes – it’s about honoring what that light was, and realizing that there’s still that same light in all of us that are still here.
