Steph Copeland Shares New Single ‘Gas Light’
Canadian award-winning composer and singer Steph Copeland has teamed up with violinist Brigit O’Regan to deliver a captivating new single titled Gas Light, a beat-driven, classically inspired, dark-pop single carried by delicate vocals, brooding lyrics, and contemporary violin.
I am loving the tone of Steph Copeland's distinctive vocals and how they instantly draw the listener's attention to her brooding storytelling. Gas Light highlights the mental anguish and social tensions en masse simmering below the surface of our day-to-day lives and is wrapped around a mesmerising production that blends pop, electronic and classical elements. I am particularly fond of Brigit O'Regan's ominous violin plucks and how they infuse the song with a classical touch which stands within the electronic production.
Speaking about the song, Steph and Brigit said,
Accompanying the release is a gorgeous music video, directed by Sean Mcleod (City and Colour, Matthew Good, Just John x Dom Dias). Starring dancer/choreographer Murphy, the music video begins with the hard strike of a match followed by a mercurial solo performance by Murphy, who leads the viewer through shuttered city streets with fragmented movements, conveying moments of levity, absurdity, sarcasm and cynicism.
