Sky Keller
Time for another short Q&A! American singer-songwriter Sky Keller first caught my attention with the release of her summery single Weekend and most recently she released the sultry song Bad. I really like her vocals and I had the opportunity to ask her a couple of questions so we could get to know her a bit more, so let's dive right into the interview below.

You’ve recently released of your new singe BAD. Can you tell us the inspiration behind the song? How was it working with Danny Garibay?
The song was inspired by my last relationship. I felt like I lost someone really special to me, and it all just didn’t seem fair. The emotions that came from that relationship went into writing “BAD”. It was amazing working with Danny. He really understood my story and helped me to convey my message. Everything just developed so naturally and I was really happy with the outcome of the song.

Can we expect a music video for this sultry song any time soon?
You can expect a music video for “BAD” sometime next year. I’ve started to imagine what the visuals might look like. I’m definitely looking forward to shooting.

Was music part of your life while growing up? Can you tell us what drew you to pursue a music career?
Music was a big part of my life growing up. I sang around the house a lot and you could always find me playing some kind of instrument. Connecting with people through art is what drew me to pursue a career in music. I don’t think there’s anything more powerful than writing lyrics and performing songs that people connect with.

What are your musical inspirations and how do they influence the way you make your own music?
Adele is a musical inspiration. I fell in love with her songs because her lyrics are honest and they take me on a journey. Her writing style has influenced the way that I write my songs. She has inspired me to hold nothing back during the creative process.

Out of the songs you have written so far, which one is your favorite and why?
My favorite song that I’ve written is my most recent release, “BAD”. I wrote “BAD” during a very low point in my life. It was liberating turning my thoughts into lyrics. I definitely enjoyed the writing process the most compared to my other songs. I also fell in love with Danny’s production on this one. Everything he added was unique, and felt very fresh.

Are you working on a full-length album? And when can we expect it to come out?
I’m not currently working on a full-length album. Focusing on putting out singles right now and eventually an EP.

If you could pick any artist to work with, who would it be and why?
If I could pick any artist to work with it would be 6lack. His songs depict personal experiences about life and love. He takes people on a journey with his lyrics, something I also love to do.

Are you planning to tour any time soon? What can fans expect from your shows?
No plans to tour right now. Spending a lot of time writing new material. Needless to say, I am very excited to start performing live. Fans can expect high-energy, emotional, and intimate shows.

If you were given the chance to pick one artist/band to tour with which one would it be and why?
If I were given the chance, I would tour with Alina Baraz. She seems like a fun gal to tour with. I love that her shows typically take place at smaller venues. They are very intimate and as a fan, you don’t feel lost in the crowd. I also envision my shows like that. I think we’d be great tour partners.

What job do you think you would be doing now if you didn't have your music career?
If I weren’t doing music I’d probably be working as a nurse in a different country. I am a licensed registered nurse but have not expanded my nursing career because of my involvement in music. I love taking care of sick people and I also love to travel. It’d be pretty cool to combine the two somehow. Nursing people back to health in a foreign country sounds pretty amazing and I think I’d enjoy that a lot.

What was the first album you ever bought?
First album I ever bought was Millennium by Backstreet Boys. Man, I loved that album. It was always on repeat.

What music are you currently listening to?
I find myself listening to a lot of soul, R&B, and hip-hop right now. Artists like Ella Mai, 6lack, They, The Weeknd are my go to.

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life which one would it be and why?
East Atlanta Love Letter by 6lack! I’ve been listening to the album weekly since it dropped 2 months ago. I can’t seem to get tired of it. It’s a masterpiece for sure.

What is your favourite song of 2018 so far?
OTW by Khalid. The melodies are contagious. I still stream it regularly almost a year after its release!
