Michelle O Faith Unveils New Single 'Birthday Blues'
Classically-trained singer, songwriter, producer Michelle O Faith has unveiled her brand new single, Birthday Blues. What a gorgeous alt-pop song this is. So powerful and with an epic/cinematic vibe! This is the title track of her upcoming 5-track EP, out on October 22nd! Of the song, Michelle says:
I wrote Birthday Blues about my birthday this year. I wanted the song to sound as bittersweet as its subject matter – morose yet uplifting; hopeful yet hopeless. Like a jubilant funeral-march... a melancholic celebration. The idea of a march led me to compose this super-militaristic, almost tribal drumbeat. I wanted the over-arching sound to be really epic, cinematic. As always, I was heavily inspired by film composer Hans Zimmer – hence the track’s string arrangement, which is super-detailed, and took a lot of work. In essence, Birthday Blues is a song about time. About a fear of time; and the overwhelming feeling that there is never enough of it. I recall, in the run-up to my birthday, growing increasingly ill at ease. I started to feel as though time were my enemy. I think most people can relate to some degree to what I sing about in Birthday Blues. Not wanting to grow ‘old’; having a fear of the future; whilst simultaneously praying for brighter days. It’s the most autobiographical thing I’ve ever written.
