Rina Sawayama Premieres 'Where U Are' Music Video
Rina Sawayama has unveiled the self-directed new video for her latest single Where U Are. The video was co-directed by Rina alongside filmmaker Ali Kurr, and finds Sawayama tapping into the themes of anxiety in The Digital Age which inform the track.
Speaking about the ideas behind the video, Rina says
As much as ‘Where U Are’ is about online relationships with others, it’s also about the online relationship you have with yourself. Cos sometimes the relationship you have with yourself online is THE MOST messed up. We live in a culture of self-surveillance that makes us forget who we really are, and what we really should be doing with our time. We want to be where they are, where future-you will be, where past-you was, but not pay attention to where you are now. Ali & I were inspired by Essena O’Neill’s recent departure from social media, alongside artists such as Petra Collins and Arvida Byström, whose work deals with online female insecurity. Being involved in the production, direction and right through to the editing was so fun, as I always visualise the video as I produce the song.
I am really loving this smooth pop/R&B tune and that guitar solo is amazing. An infectious tune for sure! It will be present on her upcoming EP, Alone Together! Check out the video below!
