Hey guys! Earlier last month Canadian singer Jordan Waller premeired the visuals for his brand new single Let You Down, which I've shared on the blog. I really liked his music and I was lucky enough to ask him a few questions so we could get to know him a bit more. We talked about his single, his musical inspirations, and more. Check it out below!

1. You recently released your new song Let You Down. What was the inspiration behind this song?

This was the first song we worked on after we finish ‘This Feeling’ so for me it was really going to determine what direction my music was going to take. I really want to stick to big pop chorus’ and I am a guitar player so I knew I wanted to have guitar in my songs for sure. Lyrically the inspiration came from a conversation between myself and a great friend saying that I should try writing a song that really involved social media like Instagram. I was in a relationship that had a lot of unnecessary problems based on social media so I was able to relate the idea to a really personal experience and thats where the song ‘Let You Down’ came from.

2. Out of the songs you have written so far, which one is your favourite and why?

I have a song right now that is tentatively called ‘Falling’ and it just has such a cool vibe to it. Medium temp and really simple lyrics and also features a rap in the bridge of the song. Excited to release it!

3. What can fans expect from your debut album?

They can expect a really diverse group of pop songs that don’t all sound the same. The album is really going to revolve around love and finding yourself in a few different forms. I don’t want to give away to much!

4. Was music part of your life while growing up? What drew you to pursue a music career?

It's funny, it has always been apart of my life but when I was like 6 I hated listening to music. My family would get in the car and turn on the radio and I would scream till they turned it off haha. But in grade 1 I started taking drums lessons and after a year of that switched to guitar and I’ve been playing ever since. Music was the one steady thing in my life that I always loved and came back to. For me It was the realization that i didn’t want to do anything else with my life, I wasn’t passionate about anything like I was about music. So as bands faded out and all the people around me at the time needed to pursue what they were going to do with their lives I decided that I was going to do this as a career and that started my journey to become a pop artist.

So my parents are a lot older and their music taste was not really the classics that most of my friends grew up on so I really didn’t actually grow up on anything. I had to find it myself. I became obsessed with the foo fighters from a young age and thats actually how I started singing was to their music. I really got into pop music though around grade 10 and artist like Justin Bieber, Katy Perry where big musical inspirations for me. I just love music that makes me feels amazing. Now days Bieber’s stuff is still super inspiring but artist like Halsey, Kahlid, Nick Jonas, One Direction, The Vamps, Post Malone and the chainsmokers are all pretty big inspirations for me. I should add that when I was in grade 10 I was at a concert watching a band called The Almost and they covered Free Falling by Tom Petty and it literally changed my life. I think that moment was one of the biggest moments that made me want to do music.

6. What job do you think you would be doing now if you didn't have your music career?

Before I really started pursuing music I was really into film so I think I would be on the other side of the camera if I wasn’t doing this!

7. Who would be your dream collaboration?

I think it would have to be Kahlid or Nick Jonas.

8. What was the first album you ever bought?

I want to say that it was a RIOT by Paramore. I was obsessed with them to haha. Rock and Punk is where it all started for me.

9. If you were given the chance to pick one artist/band to tour with which one would it be and why?

I would love to tour with Nick Jonas because I think our music would go well together on a tour and I really like what he stands for and the message he promotes. Thats really important to me.

10. Imagine you were given the opportunity to headline a big summer festival. Which one would you prefer to headline, and why?

Coachella for sure! Almost ever artist is there and to be able to connect with some of my favourite artist and just talk to them and get to know them would be really cool. As well as performing there let alone headline that would be insane!

11. What is you favorite song to belt out at the bar/in the car/for karaoke?

I'm going to go with Free Falling on this one!

12. What music are you currently listening to?

Right now it would be
Khalid
Halsey
Demi Lovato
Post Malone

There are a lot more but those are at the top of my recently played on spotify.

13. If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life which one would it be and why?

That is a really tough question! I love to much music to pick just one!

14. What is your favourite song of this year so far?

Right now it is Kahlid and Marshmellow - Silence
