Alt-Pop London duo RINNGS release new single “Oceans”
Alt-Pop London duo RINNGS have released their brand new single Oceans, out now via Wow & Flutter Records. This song was self-composed and produced by the multi-instrumentalists Karl Zine and Nai Jannson.

Oceans is a lushly arranged track that evokes the atmosphere of golden-age pop, whilst still maintaining a beautifully composed observation of love clouded by emotions of longing and uncertainty. The track is inspired by a host of different genres, due to the breadth of RINNGS musical tastes. Influenced by classical choral through to rap and pop, their current playlist includes Frank Ocean, Mura Masa , Louis The Child and Francis & The Lights. Watch its official music video below!

Speaking about Oceans RINNGS said,
For this track we decided to do a song featuring both of us on vocals. We were listening to a few great duets like Peter Gabriel/ Kate Bush, Drake/ Rihanna  and wanted to do a kind of anti-love song about two people who wanted to be together but couldn’t, and trying to get over each other - the main lyric ‘You’ve got me trying to dry the Ocean’ seemed like a good way to sum that up. As with all our tunes, when it came to production we created everything from just vocals and percussion, layering and looping ourselves to make backings that sound unique because of the way they were made. For this single we also played around more with the idea of turning vocals into synth-type sounds that we could use as keyboard parts.

RINNGS formed a band where neither of them play any instruments and the entire sound is made from vocals and drums. They don’t remember where they read that it was wise to set boundaries like this, but it turns out to have been a good idea, resulting in a unique formula of lush layered choirs, manipulated vocals and intricate rhythms, over which the melody and lyrics take us on a journey through life; the highs, the lows and the ordinaries.

With a penchant for Tony Williams and Frank Ocean, Karl Zine followed a path as a jazz musician after studying at the Royal Academy of Music and performing in jazz clubs, before turning his attention to the world of pop.

Nai Jannson is a choral composer and conductor. Her work recently includes conducting duties for the London Contemporary Voices at Brixton Academy and  choral arrangements for an international theatre/dance production which opened in Sadler’s Wells. They first met at an awards show and lost touch until a chance encounter on an empty transatlantic flight a few months later. This is when the force that is RINNGS was born.
